THE SPEAKER
Paul Sedgwick, Deputy Ranger, Windsor Great Park
Paul Sedgwick was appointed Deputy Ranger of the Windsor estate in 2014, and manages a team of around 180, covering activities such as property management, tourism, horticulture, marketing, grounds maintenance and forestry.
A qualified chartered surveyor, Paul was previously a partner with Strutt and Parker, managed the Duke of Wellington’s Stratfield Saye estate, and also managed Lord Iliffe’s estate at Yattendon. He remains a Non-Executive Director at Stratfield Saye.
The Windsor estate covers approximately 6,400 hectares, stretching from Windsor Castle in the north, to Camberley in the south, a distance of some 16 km (10 m). The estate includes Windsor Great Park, the Home Park of Windsor Castle, extensive forests, residential and commercial properties, golf courses, Ascot racecourse and let farms. Windsor Great Park is one of the country’s most visited tourist attractions, welcoming around 5 million visitors a year.
Within his role at Windsor, Paul reports to the Ranger of the Great Park, HRH The Duke of Edinburgh and also to The Crown Estate.
Paul will provide an overview of The Crown Estate as a whole entity, before focussing on the Windsor estate as one of the largest rural estate assets in the country, including the challenges of running a rural estate in a sub-urban environment under The Crown Estate Act, and the opportunities and constraints that this poses.
Paul will provide examples from the simple world of business leases, all the way through to the complexities of the collaborative agreement on the Ascot High Street Redevelopment Project. He will talk through the depth and breadth of the commercial portfolio at Windsor, and the relationships with tenants.
