Family Mediation Week

Family Mediation Week is an annual campaign to raise awareness of the benefits of family mediation and how it can help separating families resolve their issues in a constructive and conciliatory way, therefore avoiding having to use Court.

Mediation is a process in which an independent, professionally trained mediator helps parties work out arrangements for children and finances where there is a dispute. The mediator will not tell parties what to do but will try and help parties communicate and to facilitate an agreement between them, rather than have a decision imposed by a Court.

The process can be much less stressful than attending Court to resolve a dispute and generally more cost effective. There are also some local mediators who are taking part in the Ministry of Justice’s Family Mediation Voucher Scheme, which meets up to £500 of mediation costs for families if they need to discuss arrangements for children.

Family Mediation Week shines a spotlight on the benefits family mediation can bring to separating families. It is organised by the Family Mediation Council (FMC) and you can find mediators near you by using their search facility: https://www.familymediationcouncil.org.uk/find-local-mediator/

Our Family team can help advise on all types of mediations, and whether mediation is right for your specific situation. Please contact us at Clifton Ingram to book a consultation with one of our Family lawyers.
