Clifton Ingram Welcomes New Partner Sam Fellows

Clifton Ingram is pleased to announce that, as of May 5th, Sam Fellows has joined the firm as a Partner in its Dispute Resolution team, bringing specialist expertise in property litigation across both commercial and residential matters.

Based in the Farnham office, his appointment strengthens a team that is widely respected for the depth and quality of its litigation work, and reflects Clifton Ingram's continuing investment in senior-level expertise across its offices in Farnham, Reading and Wokingham.

A specialist with over a decade of experience

Sam qualified in 2014 after training at Maples Teesdale LLP, a City of London firm specialising in commercial property. Since then, he has built a substantial track record in high-value property litigation, acting in both the County Court and the High Court on matters ranging from commercial lease disputes and option agreements to boundary disputes, adverse possession, rights of way and leasehold enfranchisement.

Before joining Clifton Ingram, Sam practiced at Iliffes Booth Bennett LLP in Uxbridge, where he spent six years building experience across a wide range of contentious residential and commercial property matters. He subsequently moved to Field Seymour Parkes LLP in Reading before joining Knights in their Weybridge office, where he reached Senior Associate level in 2023 and subsequently became the office's trainee supervisor.

Across each of those roles, Sam developed a broad and technically demanding caseload, running proceedings from initial instruction through to trial. His ability to build self-sufficient pipelines of work, establish strong internal and external referral networks and manage complex Court proceedings end-to-end has been a consistent feature of his career. Sam is also a member of the Property Litigation Association.

What Sam brings to the firm

Sam's practice covers the full range of contentious and advisory property work. His areas of specialism include:

  • Commercial and residential property litigation
  • Strategic and advisory work to developer and retail clients
  • Break options
  • Business lease renewals under the Landlord and Tenant Act 1954
  • Leasehold enfranchisement and statutory lease extensions under the Leasehold Reform, Housing and Urban Development Act 1993
  • Rights of first refusal under the Landlord and Tenant Act 1987
  • Trespass, boundary disputes and restrictive covenants
  • Adverse possession and rights of way
  • Contested litigation and court procedure

His leasehold enfranchisement work is a particular area of depth, developed during his time at Iliffes Booth Bennett, and carried through each subsequent role. He has also acted as a trainee supervisor at two separate firms, reflecting his ethos of developing others alongside his own practice.

Sam's experience spans the full lifecycle of property disputes, from early-stage advisory work and statutory notice procedure through to fully contested hearings and trial. That breadth makes him well placed to advise clients across a wide range of property challenges, whether at the pre-litigation stage or deep into proceedings, or running alongside transactional colleagues advising on the development and management of commercial property assets.

Sam commented: “What drew me to Clifton Ingram was the calibre of its people and the genuine breadth of work across the firm’s offices. I am looking forward to playing an active role in building a team that approaches litigation with pragmatism and empathy, and has the resources to handle complex matters to the highest standard.”

A firm-wide commitment to investing in genuine expertise

Sam's arrival follows Clifton Ingram's acquisition of PainSmith Solicitors earlier this year, which brought specialist landlord and tenant expertise into the firm's property offering. Together, these developments reflect a deliberate and sustained commitment to building specialist capability across the property litigation space at a time when this area of law continues to evolve.

For clients, the benefit is direct. Access to a partner with Sam's range and depth of experience means that disputes can be handled efficiently and strategically from the outset, with appropriate escalation paths and the full support of a firm with significant property resources across three offices.

"Sam is a highly experienced property litigator with a strong record in complex, high-value disputes," said Jonathan Foulds, Managing Partner and Head of Commercial Property at Clifton Ingram.

"His appointment adds real depth to our dispute resolution team and reinforces our ability to support clients with the full range of contentious property matters, from advisory work through to trial."
