Redundancy and Restructuring
No time is a good time to be told by your Employer that you are going to lose your job due to redundancy or a restructuring of the business. If this happened to you would you know where you stood?
Effecting redundancies or a business restructuring (which often results in redundancies) is seldom straightforward and Employers often make the mistake of not consulting properly (or even at all) with the affected Employees. In other situations Employers may appear to consult but not meaningfully or with transparency and may select for redundancy on grounds that may be unfair or discriminatory.
Where the Employer is contemplating 20 or more redundancies in any one establishment there is a complex statutory procedure to follow which Employers do not always follow correctly and in some cases, make no attempt to.
