Stuart Adams

Solicitor Advocate

Stuart is a Solicitor-Advocate in our Tax Planning, Wills & Probate department and its Contentious Inheritance division. Stuart specialises in tax and succession planning, probate, Wills and trusts with particular expertise in contentious matters.

Stuart’s experience extends to advising beneficiaries, executors and trustees when disputes arise over trusts, probates and estates. Stuart also advises on issues relating to validity and rectification of Wills and trust documents and bringing and defending claims under the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975. Where appropriate, Stuart also advises on related professional negligence.

Stuart is qualified, through experience together with training and assessment, to represent clients as an advocate in the higher courts (including the Supreme Court) of England and Wales.

Stuart is a full member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) and a student member of the Association of Contentious Trust and Probate Specialists (ACTAPS).

Helen Andrews

Senior Associate Solicitor

Helen qualified as a solicitor in 1983 and has 20 years’ specialist experience in all aspects of residential conveyancing for freehold and leasehold property. She handles a wide range of property transactions including freehold and leasehold transactions, lease extensions, restrictive covenants, rights of way, defects in title, statutory declarations, easements, possessory titles, plot sales and new builds.

Bill Annan

Bill Annan, Chairman and Head of Corporate Services

Bill leads our corporate services team in a wide range of corporate, contractual, commercial and sports related matters. He specialises in mergers and acquisitions, sales/purchases of businesses, private equity, and corporate finance and structure. He is also the firm’s chairman.

Lesley Bacon

Debt Recovery Manager

Lesley heads up the Debt Recovery Section of the Dispute Resolution Department and has worked with Clifton Ingram LLP for 22 years.  She is involved with the collection of debts prior to issue, the preparation and lodgement of Claims at Court, obtaining Judgments and issuing enforcement for individuals. 

She is also active in resolving disputes and negotiating settlements by assisting the client with the preparation of self representation at Court or with the assistance of the Small Claims Mediation Service.

Chris Baggs

Partner, Commercial Property

Chris has considerable experience in the full range of commercial property law, including landlord and tenant issues, acquisitions, disposals and development. He acts for many clients with large property portfolios. He joined the firm in 1987 after several years at McKenna & Co (now CMS Cameron McKenna) in the city and became a partner in 1989.

Alison Cross

Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives

Alison has been a Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives since 1997. She was previously chairman of the Reading branch of the institute. She is a member of Solicitors for the Elderly (and Treasurer of the Berkshire branch of the organisation), the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners and the Law Society Probate Section.

She has over 20 years’ experience in the field of wills, powers of attorney, Court of Protection Deputyship matters, estate planning, probate and elderly client affairs. She is a regular speaker at client seminars on a variety of topics relating to this area of law.

Tina Crow

Partner and Head of Residential Property

Tina joined Clifton Ingram in 1999 having qualified as a solicitor in 1985 and specialises in all aspects of residential conveyancing including sales, purchases and re-mortgages of residential property.

She has extensive experience of dealing with freehold and leasehold transactions and is able to advise on lease extensions, freehold enfranchisements, restrictive covenants, rights of way, defects in title, statutory declarations, easements, possessory titles, plot sales and new builds.

Jonathan Davis

Head of Dispute Resolution and Partner

Jonathan has over 30 years’ experience in many areas. He has advised on a wide range of commercial, corporate and individual disputes and has worked exclusively on litigation matters since 1991.

Examples of recent cases are a mortgage misrepresentation claim, a substantial breach of fiduciary duty and copyright claim against a company director, a construction dispute, a boundary dispute, a dispute between a mother and son involving substantial assets and money and allegations of undue influence and fraud, a partnership claim, and child abuse cases.

He also has extensive experience in personal injury claims (including sports injuries), insolvency and contentious probate cases. Jonathan is also an accredited mediator with Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Group.

Anne Deller

Senior Associate

Anne has specialised in family law for over 12 years. She represents clients in complex children cases, including those with an international aspect, or involving social services and is experienced in dealing with emergency matters at short notice. She also acts for high net worth clients in divorce proceedings and represented the husband, a well known sports personality, in the reported case of QvQ. She also has significant experience of all aspects of family law including applications for maintenance pending suit, freezing orders and enforcement. 

She is a member of Resolution and endeavours where possible to resolve financial disputes through negotiation. She has been involved with well known local charities and was chair of Bracknell Youthline for several years.

Denise Drammis

Trust and Tax Manager

Denise has over 25 years’ experience in trust and estate administration and dealing with personal tax. Her work includes the preparation of estate and trust accounts and tax returns, preparation of personal tax returns and dealing with elderly client matters. She specialises in the preparation of accounts and winding-up of particularly complex estates.

She is a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners and a former Secretary and Treasurer of the Thames Valley branch.

James Dyson

Partner and Head of Employment Law

James has been a partner since 1982. He specialises in all aspects of employment law including redundancies, wrongful and unfair dismissal claims, sex and race discrimination, and drafting contracts of employment. James is a member of the Employment Lawyers Association.

Dennis has been with the firm for 44 years formerly as Senior Partner and now as a working consultant. Associate Solicitor

Alison qualified in 2001 and specialises in all aspects of employment law including redundancies, wrongful and unfair dismissal claims, discrimination and employment status. She also advises on compromise agreements, contracts of employment and staff handbooks.

David Goddard

Assistant Solicitor

David graduated from The University of Reading in 2003 with a 2.1 degree in Law. Having worked in the insurance industry for a number of years, David went on to obtain a distinction at the College of Law. David works in our Dispute Resolution department and deals with general civil and commercial litigation. He has a particular interest in landlord and tenant disputes.

Kate Grant

Partner, Family Law

Kate has 16 years experience in family law and specialises in a wide range of family law cases including intricate financial issues arising from the breakdown of a relationship.

She habitually handles mid to high net worth divorces and financial cases including those involving partnerships, companies and trusts. She also deals with children work and has extensive experience of the complex issues of relationship breakdown between cohabitees, particularly where there are children who require financial provision. She will also draft cohabitation agreements and pre-nuptial agreements. Kate is a member of the Law Society’s Family Panel and Resolution.

Trust and Tax Manager Jane has over 20 years’ experience in dealing with trust administration, personal tax and estate administration. Her work includes the preparation of trust estate accounts and tax returns and the preparation of personal tax returns.

Rekha Joshi

Associate Solicitor

Although she has developed a particular expertise in advising clients in relation to domestic violence and obtaining emergency protection orders from the Court, Rekha (Ray) also deals with all aspects of family law including financial consequences of relationship breakdown, as well matters involving children. She works closely with Berkshire Women’s Aid and is a member of the local Domestic Violence forum. She regularly advises clients at surgeries organised by Crossing Bridges and has given highly acclaimed presentations to the local police and other professionals involved in assisting victims of domestic violence.

Ray is also responsible for the day to day implementation of the practice’s contract with the Legal Services Commission to provide legal aid where appropriate. Ray is fluent in Punjabi

Hugh Lacey

Consultant

Hugh is a Consultant and has extensive experience of more than forty years, of most types of High Street practice work including wills, trusts and probate, commercial conveyancing and leases and residential conveyancing.  He is a trustee of numerous family trusts, has acted continuously for several local families over many years and now concentrates on the private client field.

Paul Lachlan

Associate Solicitor

Paul Lachlan is a Solicitor with over 33 years experience in residential conveyancing. His case load covers both freehold and leasehold transactions involving sales, purchases, remortgages, shared ownership, Housing Association Schemes and equity release schemes.

Paul joins us from Sarjeant and Sheppard Solicitors with whom we joined forces on I August. Paul works in our Reading office.

Caroline Lindon-Morris

Senior Associate Solicitor

Caroline advises farmers, farming partnerships and agri-businesses on the legal aspects of agricultural property, rural land and equestrian businesses. She has expertise in agricultural tenancies including drawing up and advising on farm business tenancies. She has acted on the sale and purchase of freehold farms including farm buildings, farm houses and agricultural land.

Caroline has advised on the Single Payment Scheme and on the transfers of Single Payment Entitlements in the context of farm sales and agricultural tenancies. Caroline also acts for the sellers and purchasers of rural land adjoining residential properties where the home owner is seeking to protect the residential property from adjoining development, or change of use.

Ian Martin

Partner, Tax Planning, Wills and Probate

Ian started his legal career in Lincoln’s Inn, moving to Reading where he joined Sarjeant and Sheppard Solicitors (now incorporated with Clifton Ingram) in 1974 becoming a partner in 1977 and brings over 30 years’ experience to the department.

Ian has worked extensively in the non contentious field covering a range of private client services from, wills and inheritance tax, creating and administering trusts including those for the disabled and mentally disadvantaged, probate and the administration of estates. His work includes the various types of powers of attorney and he holds appointment by the Court of Protection as deputy.

Ian is a member of the Law Society Probate Section, Solicitors for the Elderly and the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners.

Emma McCarthy

Associate Solicitor

Emma is an Associate Solicitor in the Tax Planning, Wills & Probate department and has over 10 years’ experience in advising upon the full range of private and elderly client matters. Emma specialises in succession planning, will drafting, estate administration, asset protection and related income and capital tax planning advice for UK individuals and family trusts.

Emma is a full member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners having successfully completed the society’s two year admission diploma. Emma is a student member of the Association of Contentious Trust and Probate Specialists and is undertaking its training programme to develop and strengthen her expertise in contentious trusts and probate. Additionally, Emma has membership of Solicitors for the Elderly and the Law Society Probate Section.

Peter McGeown

Partner and Head of Tax Planning, Wills and Probate

Peter is a solicitor with more than 20 years’ experience. He is Legal 500 recommended and specialises in Inheritance and Capital Gains Tax planning; will drafting and all aspects of trust and estate administration.

As a member of the firm’s specialist contentious inheritance team he also advises upon disputes concerning wills and trusts. Peter provides a full range of advice services to the elderly including powers of attorney, court of protection matters, long term care issues and asset protection.

He is chairman of the Thames Valley branch of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners and a member of The Law Society Probate Section and of Solicitors for the Elderly. He is a regular speaker at the firm’s popular IHT seminars

Tris heads up Clifton Ingram Sport, the multi-disciplinary team of lawyers dedicated to servicing the needs of the firm’s sports clients.

Anita is an Associate Solicitor in the Tax Planning, Wills and Probate Department. Carl Rae

Carl Rae Senior Associate Solicitor

Carl has an academic background that covers both law and science. His first degree was in molecular genetics. After university Carl managed a laboratory for Shell UK and became a member of the Institute of Petroleum during which time he devised a novel experimental technique for the analysis of paraffin waxes. Carl also ran his own successful property management business before seeking a more challenging career and embarking on a second degree in law.

Although Carl has experience in just about every area of litigation with six important cases recorded in the official law reports, he has particular expertise in the fields of personal injury, property, insolvency and factoring.

Ruby Tufail

Ruby qualified in 2003 and specialises in family law. Although she has a keen interest in international family issues, Ruby deals with all aspects of relationship breakdown, including divorce, separation, cohabitee disputes and dealing with cases involving children.

She has considerable experience in relation to domestic violence issues and routinely successfully represents clients in obtaining emergency injunctions, working closely with the Police and local women’s refuge. Ruby is familiar with the Legal Aid system and regularly takes on a wide range of publicly funded work. Ruby is fluent in Urdu and Punjabi.

Marilyn Young

Partner and Head of Family Law

Marilyn’s status as a leading Family law specialist has been recognised in Chambers Directory. Although she covers all aspects of family law, including divorce, separation, children and unmarried couples, Marilyn has developed considerable expertise in dealing with complex financial cases including those involving both private and public companies and has represented a number of high value divorce clients, some of whom are well known in business and sporting circles.

Marilyn is a member of Resolution, the Law Society’s Family Law Panel, Treasurer of the Reading & Berkshire Solicitors’ Association, a committee member of the Berks Bucks & Oxon Law Society and has been joint chair of the Thames Valley Family Lawyers’ Society.
